Valentine's day card

Learn how to design the background of heart shape forms for Valentine's Day. Start working by creating a new file (File>New) of 1280x1024 px and 72 dpi. Then applying the Rectangle Tool (U), it’s possible to represent the background of the picture to be.

Set for the made layer the next demonstrated parameters by clicking on this layer on the layers’ panel: Fill 0% Blending Options>Gradient Overlay

Gradient’s parameters:

Next we’ll use the Rectangle Tool (U), to draw a horizontal line:

The layer’s parameters: Blending Options>Gradient Overlay

Gradient’s parameters:

Using the same tool, try to make another line above the previous made one:

The parameters are the same with the previous line’s parameters:

Make a copy of the last made layer and choose the Free Transform selection to place the copy the same way from below:

Using the Custom Shape Tool (U), try to draw a heart, which must be inclined a little with Free Transform option.

The layer’s parameters: Fill 0% Blending Options>Gradient Overlay

Gradient’s parameters:

Blending Options>Stroke

Gradient’s parameters:

Applying the Ellipse Tool (U), we need to represent a highlight on the heart element. Firstly represent the basis and then keep pressed Alt button while cutting the unnecessary elements with the same tool.

The layer’s parameters: Blending Options>Gradient Overlay

Gradient’s parameters:

Using the earlier applied Custom Shape Tool (U), try to make the next heart’s layer, which shape must be corrected with the

Convert Point Tool.

The layer’s parameters: Blending Options>Gradient Overlay

Gradient’s parameters:

Try to represent a highlight on the heart, choosing for this operation the Custom Shape Tool (U). Then press Alt button while applying the Pen Tool (P) and the Convert Point Tool to represent a kind of zone which must be cut out later.

The layer’s parameters: Fill 0% Blending Options>Gradient Overlay

Gradient’s parameters:

Next we’ll combine in a group the layers composing the heart (press Ctrl button to mark out the necessary layers and then press the left mouse’s button while moving the marked layers on Create a new group option) Make a copy of the got group and choose Free Transform option to put the copy the same way indicated on the next picture, also changing the copy’s sizes:

Download sets of ready to use brushes in Adobe Photoshop, named: Ideal__s_Vector_set_3, Straight_Grunge_Lines_Brushes_by_DieheArt, Vector_Flower_Brushes_by_Yasny_chan.
Create a new layer, applying the brushes out of the set with the name Ideal__s_Vector_set_3. The brushes have black color and #6D0E12. The brushes’ layer should be placed lower than the layers composing the heart and the layers containing the horizontal lines:

Set for the brushes’ layer the parameters from below: Fill 35%

On the next new layer we’ll apply the brushes out of the set Vector_Flower_Brushes_by_Yasny_chan, having the color #341d19. This layer will be placed lower than the hearts’ layers and the horizontal lines’ layers:

Using the same method we’ll introduce several more ornaments, applying this time the brushes out of the set, named Vector_Flower_Brushes_by_Yasny_chan. The brushes have black color and their layers will be placed lower than the hearts’ layers and the layers containing the horizontal lines:

On the last stage we’ll create a new layer to use there the brushes, named Straight_Grunge_Lines_Brushes_by_DieheArt with the color #FDAEB2
