Google to announce how to host your own Google Wave server

TheNextWeb is reporting that Google may be set to announce Google Wave servers for federation later today.

Currently Google has two Wave infrastructures available to those outside the company, the first is the developer preview sandbox which has been available since Google I/O earlier year and the second is the mass consumer preview which was opened up to 100,000 participants in September. Google is expected to allow companies and end users to build and host their own Wave servers. These servers will be able to talk to other Wave servers.

TheNextWeb claims that Google Wave co-founder Lars Rasmussen has confirmed Google plans on opening up the sandbox infrastructure for federation later today. More details are expected to follow shortly.

Ubuntu 9.10

Canonical announced the upcoming release of Ubuntu 9.10 Desktop Edition, the latest version of the popular Linux desktop distribution. Ubuntu 9.10 brings changes small and large that all have a common purpose - to make Ubuntu the most user-friendly operating system available. Ubuntu 9.10 features a redesigned, faster boot and login experience, a revamped audio framework, and improved 3G broadband connectivity, all of which contribute to a first-class user experience.

Furthermore, the innovative '100 Paper Cuts' initiative organised with the Ubuntu Community allowed users to nominate minor annoyances that impacted their enjoyment of the platform. So far over 50 fixes have been committed, removing minor irritants such as inconsistent naming or poorly organised application choices. Larger scale user experience improvements include a refreshed Ubuntu Software Center, giving users better and more easily understood information about the software they have available - bringing the world of open source applications closer to the user. These improvements, in combination, have a transformative effect on the user experience.

Ubuntu 9.10 also includes the integration of 'Ubuntu One' as a standard component of the desktop. Ubuntu One is an umbrella name for an exciting suite of online services, which were released in beta in May 2009. Ubuntu One provides an enhanced desktop experience, simplifies backup, synchronisation, and sharing of files with an expanded set of features including Tomboy Notes and contacts synchronisation.

YouTube and Warner Music are best friends again

The Google owned company, YouTube, has one again made partners with music industry giant, Warner Music. The two media giants have finally ended a nine month dispute that started over royalty payments to Warner Music's artists and song writers.

YouTube and Warner Music couldn't come to a final agreement over royalties paid by hits generated on each of their artist's songs; the contact renewal was due in December. This forced YouTube to removal all the videos owned by Warner. The new deal between both companies will split the revenue from the videos, with Warner Music taking the majority of the share.

Warner Music will once again continue to stream music from their catalog of artists including Madonna, Metallica, Green Day, Fall Out Boy, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Oasis and many more.

YouTube is now currently partners with the four major recording labels Universal, Sony, Warner Music and EMI.

Windows 7 OEM prices unveiled, 50% off list price

ComputerWorld is reporting that online retailer Newegg.com has unveiled Windows 7 OEM pricing.

Newegg.com has priced the OEM version of Windows 7 Home Premium at $99.99 which is a price reduction of 50% down from the recommended retail price of $199.99.

Other savings are available for Windows 7 Professional and Windows 7 Ultimate at $134.99 and $174.99, respectively. This is a saving of approximately 50% on each version from the list price. OEM editions are priced lower as you typically do not get retail packaging, little official support and you're not able to transfer the operating system license from one PC to another.

Newegg is accepting pre-orders on the OEM editions of Windows 7, and has confirmed its pricing will stand until October 20.
